The TT was first revealed as a concept car during the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show. Short for "Tourist Trophy" (an annual road race on the Isle of Man), the TT was introduced by Audi to the US market in 2000 with the TT Roadster to follow. First available with a 1.8T turbocharged inline four cylinder, the Audi TT was available in both front wheel drive and Quattro models featuring a 180 hp engine. In 2001 a more powerful Quattro model was released which was equipped with a 225 hp version of the 1.8T engine, that among other changes, upped the boost from 10 psi to 15 psi. In April of 2006 Audi revealed the next generation TT. It boasts aluminum construction in the front and steel in the rear to significantly improve weight distribution. Offered in both front wheel drive and Quattro, the new TT is available with the 250 hp 3.2 Liter V6 engine, as well as a 200 hp direct injection 2.0 four cylinder. A six speed manual is standard while the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) is an option.
